Georgia

With the Inflation Reduction Act, Georgia is caring for vulnerable communities, while building a more resilient economy.

Second only to Michigan in progress made on clean energy projects, Georgia has jumpstarted over 20 new projects and created over 30,000 jobs in an effort to establish itself as the country’s center for renewable energy generation and storage. Key initiatives include electric vehicle plants from Hyundai and Kia, an expansive EV parts supplier in Chatham County, and solar cell production in Bartow County. These ample jobs are targeted to spur domestic manufacturing and to hire Georgians who are financially struggling, with 99% of IRA investments channeled into counties with below-average weekly wages and 75% appearing in counties with below-average college graduation rates. In total, the IRA has spurred $23.88 in investments in Georgia’s clean energy economy, with the greatest investments coming to solidly red parts of the state, like the 11th Congressional District, which has received the 5th largest investment in the country. These climate-forward policies are incredibly popular across party lines, too, with 79% or Georgians supporting investments in clean energy jobs and 75% supporting clean energy tax credits that attract businesses to the Peach State.

The economic impacts of these investments are being felt by Georgians at the individual level already. Since being signed into law, the Inflation Reduction Act has begun to save homeowners and renters hundreds of dollars a year on energy costs; low income households are now buying new electric appliances, from heat pumps to stoves, at 0-50% cost; and households across the state are adopting rooftop solar systems to generate reliable, cost-effective energy at home.

In rural communities, the Inflation Reduction Act has been key to helping farmers to adopt not only sustainable practices, but also more streamlined and efficient agricultural methods. Funds are helping farmers undertake new building projects, such as poultry houses; improve soil and water quality; and develop and implement robust conservation plans. The IRA is also powering local electric cooperatives to ensure that rural areas have access to reliable and affordable electricity.

With the Inflation Reduction Act, Georgia is uplifting communities across the state to build a future-oriented, worker-focused economy.
